SEA Games planning is no place for amateurs! Cayetano is not even an active sportsman – Jojo Binay
Former Vice President Jojo Binay has thrown a major shade at Speaker Alan Cayetano and his private foundation over the amateurish planning for the Southeast Asian games.
In the wake of the blunders committed by the Cayetano-led organizing committee, Binay said planning for a major sports event like the SEA Games requires skilled hands and was no place for amateurs.
“Organizing major sporting events on the scale and magnitude of the SEA Games is not a walk in the park. It requires skilled hands. It is no place for amateurs, and this early the amateurism is showing,” he said in his latest Manila Bulletin column shared on his Facebook page.
He also questioned Cayetano’s involvement in SEA Games preparations, saying “the Speaker is not known to be a sports patron or an active sportsman.”
He said they hope organizers would get their act together to address urgent concerns such as unfinished venues and chaotic preparations.
“We truly hope that the organizers will be able to overcome the many logistical problems they are facing. Let me emphasize that we wish the SEA Games to succeed, but there must be, at the end, transparency and accountability,” he said.
