Second time’s the charm? Bersamin, Peralta accept nominations for Chief Justice
Supreme Court Associate Justices Lucas Bersamin and Diosdado Peralta have formally accepted their automatic nominations to become the next Chief Justice, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Wednesday (October 10).
Guevarra said Bersamin and Peralta have submitted formal notices of their acceptance and other requirements to the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).
Bersamin and Peralta, who are among the more senior justices of the Supreme Court, also vied for the Chief Justice post following the ouster of Maria Lourdes Sereno in May.
The search for Supreme Court’s top magistrate is ongoing since Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro retired on October 8.
The deadline for submitting applications and nominations with corresponding acceptance to the JBC is on October 15.
