Senate receives P4.1-T nat’l budget bill for 2020
The Senate on Tuesday (August 20) received the proposed P4.1-trillion national budget for 2020.
Acting Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado turned over the four volumes of the national expenditure program (NEP) to Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
Also present were Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, Senate Finance committee chairman Juan Edgardo Angara and Senator Panfilo Lacson.
The proposed P4.1-trillion NEP is 12 percent higher than the P3.6-trillion national budget for 2019.
Economic managers comprising the Development Budget Coordination Committee will brief the Senate finance committee on August 28 and 29.
The Senate needs to wait for the House of Representatives to pass the budget bill on second reading before it can start plenary discussions on the NEP.
