Administration senators on Tuesday said they are optimistic they can pass the P3.757-trillion proposed budget for 2019 shortly after Congress resumes session on January 14.
Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri said they would try to do it within a span of two weeks from January 14, but he did not give any date.
“May meeting kami with all the members of the senate to discuss the approval of the budget. Its is only then can we ascertain the dates of its approval,” he said in a group chat with reporters.
“But definitely we will try to finish it as ratified in 2 weeks,” Zubiri added.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III, on the other hand, said the bill could be sent to President Rodrigo Duterte for his signing as early as January 27.
He said in an interview on DZMM that if there are no problems during the bicameral discussions, the President would be able to sign the budget on January 27 or the last week of January.
Senator Loren Legarda, chair of the Senate committee on finance, said: “We resume Jan 14. We will pass it soon. Ty.”
