President Rodrigo Duterte respects the congressional decision to reject ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal, his spokesman said Monday.

Respeto po dahil sa separation of powers amongst co-equal branches of government,” Duterte’s spokesman Harry Roque said in an online press briefing.

The President, according to Roque, took a “neutral” stance on the issue despite his previous threats to block the license renewal of the country’s largest television network.

“Desisyon po yan ng Kongreso. The most that the President can do is to remain neutral.

For his part, Roque admitted being “hurt” and “sad” over ABS-CBN’s failed bid for a new franchise, saying that he’s a “Kapamilya.”
