Seryoso ka Rody? Tito Sotto suggests making Robredo DDB chair, Win Gatchalian says it’s complicated
Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III already has a government position in mind for Vice President Leni Robredo if President Rodrigo Duterte is bent on making her the drug czar.
“It’s best if VP is appointed as DDB (Dangerous Drugs Board) chair and concurrent PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General,” Sotto said in a statement Tuesday (October 29).
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, however, said Duterte and Robredo would have to discuss who will control PDEA and the police if the Vice President were to lead the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.
“This is an operational matter. Pag-usapan nilang mabuti kung talagang seryoso ang Presidente na ibibigay kay VP Leni,” he said in an interview.
“Kung ibibigay lang sa kanya ang assignment nang walang suporta, babagsak at babagsak ‘yung tao,” Gatchalian added.
Duterte on Monday (October 30) said he will allow Robredo to become the administration’s drug czar following the Vice President’s criticism that the drug war is a failure.
Gatchalian said Duterte may have made the remark to stress that the anti-drug campaign is a complicated issue.
“I think binibigyan niya ng emphasis na dapat ma-experience din ng ibang mga officials yung ganitong campaign dahil mahirap siya at complicated,” he said.
