Coronavirus tests should be prioritized for those with severe illness, according to World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in the Philippines Dr. Rabindra Abeyashinghe.
In a televised Laging Handa public briefing, Abeyashinghe said that testing should be done to delay the upsurge in coronavirus cases.
“Our advice has been very clear. Our recommendation is that we… prioritize… (people who are) severely ill with pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome,” according to him.
The WHO official said tests for coronavirus does not only identify infected people, but also reduce the transmission and risk of infection from the virus.
Earlier, public officials earned the ire of netizens for being testing for the coronavirus despite a shortage in testing kits.
Individuals experiencing severe symptoms or mild symptoms but having existing conditions, and people aged 65 or older should be tested for coronavirus, according to the Department of Health.
