Sharpshooters wanted: Duterte plans to kill criminals with no ifs, ands or buts

If you think he was just joking to win your votes, think again.

President-elect Rodrigo Duterte is dead-set on carrying out a bloody war on crime as he planned to give state security troops a “shoot-to-kill” order against crime lords and those who resist arrest.

“If you resist, show violent resistance, my order to police (is) to shoot-to-kill. Shoot-to-kill for organised crime. You heard that? Shoot-to-kill for every organised crime,” said Duterte in an informal press conference.

Duterte said he would put out job openings for sharpshooters to carry out his crackdown in which he promised to kill 100,000 criminals as profits for funeral parlors and food for fishes.

“Do not destroy my country because I will kill you. I will kill you. No middle-ground. As long as the requirements of the law are there, if you try to evade arrest, refuse arrest and you put up a good fight or resist violently, I will say ‘kill them’,” said Duterte.

He explained why he was hell-bent on wiping out the criminals off the country’s streets: “We have a society now where obedience to the law is really a choice, an option only.”
