Police visibility in campuses will not address the issue of alleged recruitment of students by leftist groups, Malacanang said on Tuesday.
“I wonder kung the presence of police will stop the recruitment because the recruitment is usually done in secrecy,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo told reporters.
Panelo said the recruiting efforts of the communist movement are not only done in schools.
“Ang presence ng police can prevent any crime being committed inside the campus. Pero recruitment? I don’t think it will solve. Unang una, recruitment does not even have to be in schools,” he added.
The chief presidential legal counsel, meanwhile, urged Filipino parents to keep a tight watch on their children.
“We are concerned especially their parents are saying that some of their children are suddenly missing and then later on nalamaman na nandun pala sa bundok, napatay na o namatay na,” said Panelo.
“Siguro suggestion natin sa mga parents eh to tell their children that that ideology has long passed and is passe, and they should not entertain joining any kind of subversive organization for their own sake,” he added.
