The brother of Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Andres Bautista has dismissed rumors that he manipulated election results in favor of Vice President Leni Robredo.
In an interview over ANC Monday (August 14), United States-based doctor Martin Bautista described the allegation as a “complete lie.”
“Wala naman, puro chismis yun, unsubstantiated. To think, can a commissioner of the elections really change the outcome? I don’t think so,” he said.
Marcos lost to Robredo by over 200,000 votes. He has a pending protest before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal questioning her victory.
Bautista’s wife, Patricia, claimed he has several bank accounts, properties and business interests that were not in his 2016 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.
Patricia insinuated that her estranged husband amassed these assets by engaging in wrongdoing as Comelec chief and as the former head of the Presidential Commission on Good Government.
Marcos’ wife, Louise, reportedly arranged the meeting between Patricia and President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacanang last July.
The former senator, however, has denied he or his wife had any hand in Patricia’s decision to go public about the accusations regarding Bautista.
