The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested Tuesday (July 14) an employee of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) tagged in the alleged padding and tampering of salaries for athletes and coaches.
Paul Michael Ignacio was arrested by NBI operatives inside the PSC office in Rizal Coliseum in Manila.
Initial investigation by the NBI showed Ignacio inserted the names of “ghost beneficiaries” into the PSC’s payroll for athletes and coaches.
Some of the bogus beneficiaries were individuals who previously received financial support from the PSC.
Top Filipino athletes who represent the country in prestigious competitions receive P45,000 from the PSC monthly while those in the training group get P10,000 a month.
Ignacio told Politiko that he facilitated the modus alone.
PSC is set to hold a press conference Wednesday (July 15) to explain how Ignacio’s scheme was discovered.
