Former Senator Edgardo Angara and detained Senator Jinggoy Estrada had a heated exchange of statements in the past days over the P50 million Disbursement Acceleration Program fund supposedly given to senators to vote for the conviction of impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Angara, in his biography ‘In the Grand Manner,’ said Estrada was reckless and unfair in saying that the P50 million fund for the vote of the senators, the latter retaliated that he was just stating a fact.
Estrada, in a press statement, even accused Angara of funneling government funds to his own foundation and even mentioned the name of Ruby Tuason.
Amid all these, Senator Sonny Angara, son of the former senator, decided to work silently to defend his father. His office issued the press statements on behalf of his father.
In a press statement released in reply to the statement of Estrada, the elder Angara said that Estrada is grossly mistaken in insinuating that the P50 million allocation issued to him after the Corona impeachment was misappropriated.
He said the Kalusugan ng Bata, Karunungan ng Bayan, Inc. (K and K), referred to by Estrada, has already wound up its business as early as 2009, and finally closed in 2011. Meanwhile, the impeachment of CJ Corona began on January 16, 2012 and ended on May 29, 2012.
He added that after it was terminated, the K and K submitted a full liquidation and accounting of funds and submitted a Fund Utilization Report to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the disbursing and monitoring agency.
