Sorry Sandra Cam! Ex-general to be appointed as new PCSO chair
President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen a new chairperson of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office– and it’s not board member Sandra Cam.
Politiko has learned that a former general will replace Jose Jorge Corpuz as PCSO chairman.
Malacañang on January 12 confirmed that Corpuz, a former military general, resigned from PCSO for health reasons.
Corpuz reportedly suffered a stroke in November 2017.
His resignation came at the heels of a squabble within the PCSO involving him, General Manager Alexander Balutan and Cam.
The former jueteng whistleblower accused Corpuz and Balutan of spending P10 million on PCSO’s Christmas party at a posh hotel in Ortigas.
The two former military generals also supposedly received kickbacks from small town lottery operators who do not declare their actual income to the government.
In a press briefing Monday (January 15), Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Palace did not release Corpuz’s resignation letter because it contained details about his health.
“There is a letter that was sent by Chairman Corpuz to the President. We did not release it only because it contains the medical abstract of his conditions. But the President noted that the resignation of General Corpuz was upon advice of his doctors,” he said.
