Speak now or forever be silent: JBC waiting for opposition to any Chief Justice bets
The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has asked the public if they are opposed to any of the five candidates of the Supreme Court (SC) from becoming chief justice.
“The public may submit a sworn complaint, report, or opposition against any of the aforesaid candidates,” read the announcement from the JBC.
Only five candidates have applied for the position of chief justice which was vacated upon the retirement of chief justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro last Oct. 10.
They are SC Justices Lucas Bersamin, Antonio Carpio, Diosdado Peralta, Estela Perlas-Bernabe, and Andres Reyes Jr.
The JBC said any complaints against any of the magistrates can be filed until Nov. 15.
“The Council En Banc will meet on 16 November 2018 to discuss, among other matters, the comments or oppositions from the public,” the JBC said.
