Davao City 1st district Cong. Paolo Duterte has hinted that a power scuffle may break out against the presumptive House Speaker, Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano at the opening of the 18th Congress this coming July 22.

In a text message forwarded by the camp of Duterte to some members of the Congress media, the President’s eldest kin said news circulating among members of the House of Representatives that the speakership row isn’t over yet despite the recent pronouncement of his father, President Rodrigo Duterte to proceed with the term-sharing deal between Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.

“Mukhang hindi pa tapos ang laban para sa kanilang tatlo at sa mga backers,” said Duterte.

Duterte said one of the three frontrunners for the speakership prior to the announcement of his father last Monday may disobey his father’s recommendation and launch a takeover in the House Plenary during the morning session of July 22 to prevent a Cayetano Speakership

“Kasi may balita balita, may isa sa tatlo na balak mag coup d’état on the day,” said Duterte.

On Thursday, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) party stressed that their stand against term-sharing for speakership remained the same even with the recent pronouncement made by the chief executive.

“(For) HNP, yes no change,” said Mayor Duterte.

Mayor Duterte earlier warned that the possibility of another House coup is just around the corner if proponents of the term-sharing deal succeed with their lobbying.

She said HNP will definitely not support those who are pushing for the term-sharing since “it will slow down the last three years of the administration of President Duterte.”

Anakalusugan Party-list Rep. Mike Defensor earlier disclosed that there were still forces trying to resist the 1521 term-sharing deal revived by the President between Cayetano and Velasco.

“There are still movements,” said Defensor.

Defensor claimed that invitations to join the HNP-led “Duterte Coalition” are still circulating among congressmen especially in the 54-man Party-list Coalition Foundation, Inc. (PCFI).

According to Defensor, PCFI members belonging to the so-called “Davao Group” were circulating the invitation during the bloc’s caucus last Tuesday in Pasig City.

Defensor said these PCFI members were also signatories to the so-called Duterte Coalition last Friday which was spearheaded by Cong. Duterte himself.
