MAMBAJAO, Camiguin – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has taunted former Camiguin Gov. Jurdin Jesus “JJ” Romualdo for joining the ruling administration party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) despite openly campaigning for losing Presidential bet Mar Roxas during 2016 polls.

In her speech during Hugpong ng Pagbabago’s (HNP) proclamation rally held in Romualdo’s bailiwick in Mambajao, Camiguin, Mayor Duterte said she could not hide her displeasure upon learning that Romualdo was spreading false news that he buried the hatchet with his father, President Rodrigo Duterte after he was accepted as member of PDP Laban in 2017.

Romualdo, the incumbent mayor of Mambajao town, has attempted to disrupt campaign caravan of his father when he was still the provincial governor back in March 2016 after refusing to give the permit to the Duterte-Cayetano sortie to campaign in the island province, according to Mayor Duterte.

Mayor Duterte reminded Romualdo that being a member of the ruling party doesn’t guarantee that he had made peace with her father, adding the PDP Laban is a party controlled by reelectionist Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and not the chief executive.

“Pagkatapos yung partido na sinalihan mo, hindi naman yun ang kalaban mo. Partido yun ni Pimentel, hindi yun partido ni Duterte, di ba?” she said.

“PDP is the party of the father of Koko Pimentel,” Mayor Duterte said in a separate interview referring to Pimentel’s father, former Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr.

The younger Pimentel, also a former Senate President just like his father in his capacity as president of the ruling party, reportedly was the one responsible for issuing the certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) to Romualdo when he filed his candidacy as district legislator of Camiguin last October.

The Presidential daughter admitted that she got irked by Romualdo’s antics after claiming he and the President were already friends after the former was able to take picture together with the latter.

“[Sino bang hindi maiinis], yun bang magpa-picture ka, tapos lalapit ka. Tapos, sasabihin niya na may picture na kami. Magkaibigan na kami. Kung sasali ka sa partido ng iyong kinakalaban,” said Mayor Duterte.
