‘Straight outta Iskul Bukol:’ Mean tweets vs Sotto over coronavirus theory
As the new coronavirus spreads, conspiracy theories are spreading faster.
No less than Senate President Tito Sotto played a video insinuating the coronavirus could be a United States-led bioweapon against China during a Senate hearing last Tuesday. But not all netizens were pleased with Sotto for spreading an unverified report while the country battles to contain the spread of the virus.
“Hey @sotto_tito, when you’ve reached the point of showing YouTube conspiracy videos as ‘evidence’ in the Senate, maybe it’s time to retire,” @TheKilaTrillana tweeted.
@thejourneymate commented: It seems that Tito Sotto epitomizes the Dunning-Kruger Effect and that he looks totally clueless of his foolery to present a sci-fi video in front of the esteemed healthcare experts. That scene is straight from Iskul Bukol!”
@DanSAntos8 tweeted: “The Senate President playing a video that is not from a verified source. All the effort against fake news just went down the drain.”
“You know that kabobohan just happened when Tito Sotto is trending on Twitter,” @kw33n_k4y said.
Lesson for Senator Sotto: The Senate is not your FB feed.— Teddy Casiño (@teddycasino) February 5, 2020
It’s a very close fight between Tito Sotto, Cynthia Villar, and Bong Go.— Gideon Lasco (@gideonlasco) February 5, 2020
Tito Sotto just hit rock-bottom level of credibility.— Ronan (@RonanInManila) February 4, 2020
Not that he was never really far from it. But the release of this idiotic conspiracy theory video in the middle of a Senate hearing shows what he really is : a gullible, ignorant TV actor who has nothing to do in the Senate.

Tito Sotto showed the video because it was “emailed to his office”. Since this is enough for him to validate information, I think everyone should email random stuff to his office. And see what comes out. I’m going to send him a French cuisine recipe.— Ronan (@RonanInManila) February 4, 2020

Sotto now officially heads the “Committee for Conspiracy Theories, Pseudo-Science and Ghost Appearances”.— Duterte Corona Watchdog presents 😏 (@DuterteWatchdog) February 4, 2020
That may explain why he sets a completely unproven, disturbing theory into the wild which he perhaps has found on a truther website.

Imagine Tito Sotto is the Senate President and just showed an unverified video on the senate just because it was sent to his office🤦🏽♀️ pic.twitter.com/wA3jpFN0R5— Marjirie Pineda (@mystizzmarj) February 4, 2020
This is such a waste of time and resources. Seriously, does Tito Sotto read and make thorough research? Does he contemplate on everything he’s about to bluff? Does he know how to figure facts from fictions and conspiracies? Kailan siya magkakaroon ng sense? Sobrang tanga. https://t.co/t6idOQY7M3— Habs (@PicksViews07) February 4, 2020

Tito Sotto is still that high school kid watching conspiracy theories in Youtube then goes on babbling about it without even an ounce of research. https://t.co/i27KAWRNt1— Tots 🏳️🌈 (@PapaKenthought) February 4, 2020
