Senator Panfilo Lacson hopes President Rodrigo Duterte will take drastic action about Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Nicanor Faeldon amid the controversy involving the release of notorious inmates due to the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) Law.
In an interview over dwIZ radio Saturday (August 31), Lacson said Duterte should not “recycle” Faeldon like he did when the former soldier was tagged in the entry of P6.4-billion worth of shabu when he was chief of the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
“[A]ng aksyon ng Malacanang yung determined, di pahapyaw lang baka ilipat lang, baka ibalik sa BOC. Yan abangan natin anong aksyon gagawin ng Pangulo tungkol dito dahil ito napakalaking pagsubok nito,” he said.
The Senate blue ribbon committee and justice panel will jointly hold a hearing on the implementation of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) Law since it had been used to justify the release of some notorious inmates.
Faeldon has been invited to the hearing.
Based on his estimates, Lacson said over 800 out of the estimated 1,914 inmates released due to the GCTA Law were under Faeldon.
The senator said he would ask Faeldon about his bases for allowing the inmates’ release if he attends the hearing.
