Being an absentee campaigner may threaten to bring former senator Manuel Roxas II his third straight poll defeat, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Thursday.
Lacson said Roxas cannot just assume that his high awareness level would automatically convert to votes – and a poll victory on May 13.
“His No. 1 mali is he’s an absentee campaigner. He’s an absentee candidate. Malimit wala siya rito. You cannot just assume that since your awareness is high your conversion will also be high. People need to see their candidates in the flesh, on the ground, talking to them,” he said in an interview on ANC.
Roxas is campaigning for a Senate seat, three years after his failed presidential bid, and nine years after his defeat to Jejomar Binay in the VP race.
He is currently hovering outside the Magic 12 of the latest survey by Pulse Asia.
Lacson also said President Rodrigo Duterte, who had needled Roxas earlier in campaign period, is a “very strong endorser.”
