Davao City Congressman-elect Paolo “Pulong” Duterte is reportedly rooting for Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco as the next Speaker of the House of Representatives for the upcoming 18th Congress.
Multiple sources told Politiko that the eldest son of President Rodrigo Duterte just like her sister, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte was supporting the Speakership bid of Velasco this coming July.
One of the sources disclosed that the President’s son has already made up his mind to support Velasco’s quest to become the country’s House leader as early as last year following the ouster of former Speaker and reelected Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez from the House leadership after a power scuffle reportedly initiated by her sister.
The President’s son earlier dismissed rumors that he himself is eyeing the Speakership after Alvarez said that he was willing to give way to the former Davao City vice mayor if he shows interest in the top post.
President Duterte last Monday vowed to resign if Paolo decides to seek the leadership of the Lower House in July.
The incoming lawmaker believed that someone has fed wrong information about the matter to his father.
Many observers monitoring the entry of the Presidential son in the Lower House since he can play a power-broker/kingmaker role in the chamber.
