Supalpal ang epal! Duterte distances from Bong Go’s unverified announcements

In a rare affront to his long time aide, President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday (Otober 12) told reporters to blame Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go for unverified information they receive.

Fresh from his trip to Indonesia, Duterte was asked in a press conference in Davao City what his expectations of Philippine Ambassador to the United Nations Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. were as the new Foreign Affairs Secretary.

When Duterte said he was unsure whether Locsin had accepted his offer to head the Department of Foreign Affairs, the reporter said Go confirmed the information.

To this, Duterte replied: “Eh siya, sabi niya. Huwag mo akong tanungin. Eh siya ‘yang ‘pag — kung palpak na balita ‘yan, ‘yan si senador Go.”

Go is rumored to be running for senator though he has yet to file his certificate of candidacy as of posting time.

Locsin made his acceptance of the Foreign Affairs Secretary post in a tweet.

“I was asked I said yes; but love UN, the many friends & intellectual companions I made. But I didn’t say no when asked as I didn’t when he told me I was UN ambassador. If my Tito Chito Ayala trusted him implicitly; how can I not. Still UN work is like sharpening a blade every day,” he said.
