Susan Roces explains why Grace Poe couldn’t possibly be a Marcos
Silver screen icon Susan Roces has finally broken her silence on the persistent rumors linking her daughter, Senator Grace Poe, to the Marcoses.
During a visit to a public market in Iloilo on Tuesday (Feb. 16), Roces shot down rumors that Poe was actually the love child of her sister, former actress Rosemarie Sonora and the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.
For one, the actress said Poe couldn’t possibly be Sonora’s daughter because she was not pregnant at the time the senator was born in 1968.
“Kasama ko ang kapatid ko, araw at gabi ng mga panahong iyon. Hindi ko siya nakitang nagdadalang-tao. That was 1968, the year I got married,” she said.
Roces said any indication of Sonora’s pregnancy would have been obvious since she was very active in showbiz at that time.
“During that time, my sister was very visible [in public]. Never, never ko siyang nakitang pregnant,” she said.
The wife of the late action star Fernando Poe Jr. said she would not deny the senator is Sonora’s daughter if it were true, but it wasn’t.
Poe, a foundling, already denied she is related to the Marcoses. Her rumored brother, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., also shared that his mother, former First Lady and now Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos, does not believe the rumor because Poe is fair skinned and not tanned like their family.
