Taking it easy? Poe promises not to grill Mar over Mamasapano at Senate probe
Administration standard bearer Mar Roxas will have one lawmaker to worry about if ever he shows up at the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs’ hearing on the Mamasapano clash on Jan. 25.
Speaking to Ted Failon over dzMM, committee chair Senator Grace Poe said she will not grill Roxas, the former head of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), over his knowledge of the preparations for the covert police operation that resulted in the death of 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos last year.
“Kung sakaling ang aking katunggali— si Sec. Mar— ay nandoon, hindi po kayo dapat mangamba sapagkat ako ay hindi magtatanong sa kanya. Ako lang ay magmo-moderate nitong hearing na ito,” she said.
The senator added she is more than willing to let her colleagues ask Roxas questions even if she may have some queries of her own.
Despite his stature as Cabinet Secretary and Liberal Party official, Roxas was kept out of the loop of planning the SAF’s operation to arrest terrorists Zulkifli bin Hir alias Marwan and Basit Usman.
Poe said her committee has decided to reopen the investigation into the Mamasapano clash upon the request of Minority Floor Leader Juan Ponce Enrile, who was under hospital detention when the Senate hearings were held on the matter last year.
