Taking its sweet time: SC to deliberate again on ABS-CBN’s petition August 4

The Supreme Court (SC) is set to deliberate this August ABS-CBN Corporation’s petition seeking to nullify the cease and desist order (CDO) issued by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

“I was able to briefly confer with Chief Justice Peralta, and he confirms that the ABS CBN Corporation petition will be called again for deliberations by the En Banc on August 4, 2020,” announced SC Spokesman Brian Hosaka on Tuesday (July 14).

The decision to deliberate the petition was made despite the decision of the House of Representatives’ legislative franchise committee not to renew the franchise of the media giant.

In its petition, the network sought from the SC the issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) or a writ of preliminary injunction against the NTC’s cease and desist order issued on May 5.

The NTC issued the order after ABS-CBN’s legislative franchise expired on May 4.
