Vice President Leni Robredo has advised Ilocos Norte governor Imee Marcos to come clean about her academic records and admit she didn’t graduate both with a bachelor’s degree and law degree.
Robredo on Thursday (March 7) said that while academic credentials should not be a big deal for politikos, lying about them is wrong.
“Wala namang masama kung hindi nakapag-graduate, kasi maraming dahilan, at hindi naman iyong indispensable para makapagsilbi sa bayan. Pero iyong mali, iyong magsisinungaling tayo about it,'” she said at the sidelines of an event in Cagayan.
“Kung totoo nga na hindi nag-graduate, maging upfront na lang, sabihin, ‘Hindi ako naka-graduate, ito iyong dahilan,'” Robredo added.
Marcos has claimed that she has an undergraduate degree from Princeton University in the United States and a law degree from the University of the Philippines.
However, an official from the Princeton University has released a statement saying that Marcos didn’t graduate from the Ivy League school with a degree despite attending classes for a few semesters.
UP has also clarified that Marcos does not have a law degree from the school.
The daughter of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, who is running for senator, has yet to address the issue.
