Senatorial candidate Erin Tañada has slammed rival bet Imee Marcos for being a traitor after she allegedly sided with China instead of the Philippines in the dispute in the West Philippine Sea.

“Meet the new ambassador of China. Defending territorial claims is not “causing trouble” but asserting our sovereignty over our own waters,” the former Quezon representative tweeted.

“The way she speaks, she is more for China then the Philippines. Nakakalungkot na may traydor na gusto maging senador,” he said.

He was reacting to Marcos’ pronouncement that the Philippines was the one that started maritime conflict during interview with CNN Philippines.

Marcos was puzzled why the country sued China over the territorial row when it could not afford to go into such conflict.

“We started it. We picked a fight and then ngayon, ‘yun pala hindi natin kaya. Ano bang klase ‘yun? Talagang takaw gulpi tayo,” she said on the television interview.
