Tañada tells Pacquiao: Jesus an innocent victim of death penalty
Former Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada has disputed the argument of Senator Manny Pacquiao that death penalty is part of the teachings of the Bible.
Pacquiao, a boxer and a pastor, has defended the proposed return of death penalty, saying God has given governments the right to impose capital punishment. He made an example of Jesus Christ who he said was sentenced to death by the government.
Tañada told Pacquiao that the wrongful execution of Jesus showed an “imperfect and unfair” justice system.
“This exactly shows that an imperfect and unfair judicial system can sentence an innocent man to death,” he tweeted.
