Malacañang on Tuesday said it respects the decision of United States (US) President Donald Trump to extend a ban on US work visas until the end of 2020.

“We respect that decision kasi tayo nga po hindi rin natin pinapapasok ang mga work visa holders. Yan ang naging desisyon ng IATF,” according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

Sovereign states can decide on these matters, Roque said in his virtual presser.

On Monday, Trump signed an executive order extending a ban on green cards issued outside the United States December 31, 2020 and expanding immigration restrictions targeting new H-1B tech worker visas, H-2B seasonal worker visas, certain J work and education exchange visitor visas,, and L executive transfer visas.

The move aims to “protect unemployed Americans from the threat of competition for scarce jobs from new lawful permanent residents,” he said.
