Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III does not see anything wrong with presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio putting up her own political party outside of the ruling PDP-Laban.
Pimentel, president of the ruling PDP-Laban party, said Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago “should not have any effect. ”
“Kasi ang interpretation namin sa aming party constitution, members of PDP-Laban can be a member of a local party and even of a party-list. And finorm naman ni Mayor Sara is a regional party which is also a local party so wala dapat effect,” Pimentel explained to reporters.
This means that membership to PDP-Laban will not impede any member from getting affiliated with a party-list group or any local political party.
“Ang aming interpretation ng aming party constitution so technically speaking there should be no effect,” Pimentel said, referring to the decision of Carpio which reportedly became an irritant between the Davao City mayor and the President’s closest allies that include House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
