Technocrat dapat! Next DBM chief shouldn’t be a politiko – Diokno

Outgoing Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno does not want a politician to run the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
Diokno, the newly-appointed Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas governor, issued the statement on Wednesday following reports that House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is being eyed as next DBM chief.
“If you are a politician or if you are somebody who plans to run for office and you are a DBM secretary, na-di-distort yung thinking mo and you tend to maybe give more money than usual,” the secretary explained.
“Eh pera ng taong bayan yun di ba, di dapat gaunn. Maingat lang tayo sa pera ng taongbayan,” he added.
When asked who he recommends to take his post, Diokno said Budget Undersecretary Janet Abuel, currently the acting secretary of DBM, has “technical competence.”
“Nag training siya and wala siyang agenda. Kasi if you are a politician, parang iba yung agenda mo eh,” the official said adding that the DBM, the Department of Finance, and the National Economic and Development Authority should be manned by “technocrats.”
