Thai princess to develop 2 Sarangani schools – Gov Chiongbian
Two public elementary schools in Sarangani Province have been chosen as beneficiaries of a school-based development project of Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
Sarangani Gov. Steve Chiongbian Solon said Friday that preparations were underway for the implementation of Thailand’s “Collaborative Project on Children and Youth Development” in two schools in Alabel town.
Solon said these were the Datu Abdullah Tondog Elementary School in Barangay Baluntay and the Tokawal Elementary School in Barangay Tokawal.
The governor said officials from the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila, led by Charge d’ Affaires Urawadee Sriphiromya, visited the province last Wednesday to discuss collaborations for the project.
He said the group visited the two recipient-schools in coordination with the Department of Education-Sarangani division.
“We’re very happy that the province, especially the two elementary schools were chosen as expansion sites for the project,” Solon said.
A pet project of the Thai princess, the “Collaborative Project on Children and Youth Development” started in the country three years ago with three recipient-schools.
It presently covers selected schools in Antipolo City and the provinces of Leyte and Surigao del Norte.
Under the program, Solon said pupils of the recipient-schools will take part in feeding programs and other health and nutrition activities.
He said the two schools will also receive potable water systems and additional comfort rooms.
Solon said these will complement the support projects being implemented by the provincial government in various areas in the province’s seven municipalities.
The local government had established the Sulong Karunungan program to provide more focus to its education initiatives. (PNA)
