The fight for ABS-CBN franchise is the fight of all— Elago

Kabataan party-list Rep. Sarah Elago on Thursday said the fight for ABS-CBN franchise renewal was a fight against “attempts to silence free press and restrict our right to know.”

“It is a fight to frustrate attacks on free speech and expression. It is a fight against tyranny and abuse of power. Hindi lang ito laban ng ABS-CBN, ito ay laban ng lahat,” the Makabayan lawmaker said.

Amid a pandemic, Elago said the people should not let their rights be in peril.

“Human rights, from health, food, to information and dissent, are fundamental to the success of our response to the public health emergency. Access to timely, accurate, and truthful information can save lives,” she said.

“Now is the time for solidarity as we stand up for human rights and democracy. We must protect the critical role of media to report the truth and hold the government to account, especially at present when the new anti-terror law further threatens free press and critical voices of the people,” Elago said.
