The more, the better: Angara wants to increase polling precincts for Pinoys abroad
Reelectionist Senator Sonny Angara urged the government to put up polling places for Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV).
“Going forward mas maganda pag mas maraming polling places or precincts for overseas voting ,” Angara said.
Angara made the statement after the Commission on Election started the month-long overseas voting for the May Midterm polls last Saturday, April 13, in 80 Philippine embassies and consulates.
Angara, who is running under the platform “Alagang Angara,” said Comelec should resolve factors that lead to a decrease in voters’ turnout.
He said OFWs usually complain that polling places are far from their areas of residence, resulting in their failure to vote.
“Yan ang usual complaint ng kababayan natin – malayo ang lugar. Di sila makapunta,” he said.
“So maybe in the larger countries with larger Filipino communities we could study the possibility of more polling places,” Angara added.
