The President’s 7: Find out Duterte’s lady bets for 2019 senatorial race

Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez may have their own lists of senatorial bets, but President Rodrigo Duterte reportedly wants seven female veteran politikos and reelectionists included in PDP-Laban’s slate in 2019.

Among the female politikos that Duterte wants to run for senator under the administration party are reelectionist Senators Cynthia Villar, Nancy Binay and Grace Poe.

He is also said to be keen on endorsing Taguig Rep. Pia Cayetano, who wants to return to the Senate.

An endorsement from the President is, of course, already in the bag for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in case she decides to run for senator.

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, who’s dropping hints about running for the Senate, is also reportedly assured of Duterte’s support.

There’s also talk that the President has been convincing former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to run for senator.

With more than a dozen politikos jockeying for a place in PDP-Laban’s senatorial slate, it will be interesting to see how the party leaders will come up with a strong lineup with candidates that will all have Duterte’s seal of approval.
