Kris Aquino cannot count on the support of her aunt, former Tarlac governor Margarita “Tingting” Cojuangco, and uncle, former Tarlac Rep. Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr., should she run for office in the family’s bailiwick province.
Tingting said that while Kris is free to seek an electoral post in Tarlac, her candidacy will only cause divisiveness among the Cojuangcos.
“If like Noynoy (President Benigno Aquino III) noong siya’y tumakbo bilang congressman, tumulong kami sa kaniya…pero ngayon, ‘pag lumaban yung ibang Cojuangco ay mahirap na ho ‘yan, ayaw na naming sumali sa Cojuangco vs. Cojuangco,” Tingting said in a “24 Oras” report.
The former governor was quoted earlier this week as saying she’d rather leave the country if Kris succeeds in her electoral bid in Tarlac. In response, the actress and presidential sister reiterated she has no plans of entering politics next year due to her various commitments.
Pressed to clarify her statement about leaving the country, Tingting said it was just “a figure of expression.”
“What I’m trying to say is that each person belongs to a certain niche,” she said. “I mean, I want somebody who’s competent and knowledgeable about the complete issues of the country and may help the solutions and the good management skills.”
