Tito Sotto urges House to tackle ABS-CBN franchise now: Kung ayaw niyo, ‘wag niyong ipasa!
Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III has urged the House of Representatives to tackle ABS-CBN’s franchise application as soon as possible now that the network has gone off the air.
In a virtual press briefing with reporters Wednesday (May 6), Sotto said the House should decide on the issue instead of continuing to sit on it.
“’Yung franchise, kung ayaw nila eh ‘di i-reject nila para ‘di naghihintay ang mga tao, para nakakakilos na,” he said.
House leaders have yet to schedule a hearing on bills granting ABS-CBN a new franchise even if the network had to stop operations on May 5 after its franchise expired.
Sotto said the Senate cannot do anything until the House approves ABS-CBN’s franchise application since franchise bills emanate from the lower chamber.
“It’s in the hands of the officers in the executive from ABS-CBN na kausapin, tsaka congressmen who are sponsoring the bills to talk to House leaders,” he said.
