Todo suporta na! Palace: Give Robredo space to do job as drug czar
Malacañang on Saturday (November 9) called on the public to support Vice President Leni Robredo in her new role as drug czar, amid doubts that she can do her job effectively.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Robredo must be given “space” to do her job instead of subjecting her to “roadblocks and imagined conflicts.”
“The Vice President must be given a wide latitude in outlining her own anti-illegal drug scheme and pursue, without interference from other quarter backers, her own agenda which she envisions to be effective in addressing the drug menace,” he said in a statement.
Panelo made the remarks a day after Robredo met other officials of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) since being appointed to the post by President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a press conference that followed the meeting, Robredo said she was adamant that there should be no more bloodshed as part of the drug war.
Panelo said the Palace is “pleased” that Robredo is willing to join an anti-drug operation with law enforcers.
He said this will allow Robredo to “see the hostile and mortal realities on the ground that could pave the way for the reassessment of her previous adversarial position on the government’s relentless drive against prohibited drugs or her adoption of better and effective measures not heretofore done.”
