Tolentino wants AFP to build military bases to protect West PH Sea, Sulu Sea, PH Rise with the help of BCDA
Senator Francis Tolentino is proposing the construction of military bases and facilities to beef up security in the West Philippine Sea, Sulu Sea and Philippine Rise.
Tolentino wants the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA), which was created in 1992 to redevelop military bases into urban centers, to help the Armed Forces of the Philippines in creating these bases.
In his Senate Bill 1046, Tolentino said: “In light of evolving geopolitical conditions, is the placement of new military installations in key locations around the country for the strategic protection and advancement of national security, particularly in areas covering the West Philippine Sea, the Sulu Sea, and the Philippine Rise. This strategic positioning of new military bases is vital, now more than ever, as the country continues to face threats both from within and without our territory.”
The bill would amend the BCDA Act or Republic Act 7227 to state: “To assist the Department of National Defense in the creation and development of land and coastal areas for military purposes in areas near the West Philippine Sea, Sulu Sea and Philippine Rise.”
