Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has ordered the removal of Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos’ imposing tarpaulin, which was put up for the Sinulog Festival on January 20.
In a Facebook post Friday (January 18), Osmeña said he is doing Marcos a “favor” by taking the tarpaulin down.
“The Cebuanos do not appreciate the politicization of the Sinulog. This won’t be earning you any votes and is doing you more harm than good,” he said, addressing the governor.
Osmeña maintained there was nothing personal about the order.
“My own brother is running for Senator and I didn’t invite him to come,” he said.
In the comments section, Osmeña said politikos are welcome to join the Sinulog Festival but they’re banned from speaking on stage at the grand parade since it is a religious event and not a venue to campaign.
“Even my own brother who is running for Senator I didn’t invite to the Sinulog. Like the other senatoriables, he is welcome to come, but only as a participant like everybody else. The only star of the Sinulog is the Sto. Niño,” he said.
