Employees of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) are furious after the chief of its legal section was found to be taking bribes from persons suspected of criminal activities.
Among the individuals whom NBI legal assistance bureau chief Joshua Capiral allegedly received money from were the suspects tagged in the “pastillas” scam inside the Bureau of Immigration.
“ Ang daming agents na nagalit sa kanya at tinatawag siyang traydor, sa pagbebenta ng mga kaso na pinaghirapan ng mga investigators, according to NBI Special Action Unit (SAU) Chief Emeterio Dongallo.
Capiral was arrested along with his younger brother, Cristopher John, in an entrapment operation inside the bureau’s legal office Monday (September 21).
The siblings will be charged for robbery, extortion and anti graft and corrupt practices. Also charged is an Atty Patrick Penachos, who allegedly act as ‘’ front’ of siblings in their illegal activities.
NBI Director Eric Distor has ordered an inventory of the cases handled by Capiral. He has also instructed NBI SAU to conduct a deeper investigation to ensure the integrity of the cases.
“This could be an isolated case, but still we want to find out if others in his section were used, unwittingly or wittingly.”Distor said.
