Trillanes lang ang peg: Bong Revilla can run for Senate despite pork scam cases- abogado
Even if he is found guilty by the Sandiganbayan, former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. can still make another run for the Senate.
“He may still run because he can still appeal the decision before the Sandiganbayan or the Supreme Court,” explained his legal counsel, lawyer Ramon Esguerra, in a statement.
“Unless the decision becomes final and executory, a conviction will not automatically disqualify him from running,” he assured.
The Sandiganbayan 1st Division has already concluded the conduct the plunder trial of Revilla and is set to rule on it.
Aside from plunder, Revilla has been charged with 16 counts of graft and one count of plunder in connection to the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam.
Under the charges, Revilla is accused of having amassed P242 million in kickbacks from his co-accused, pork barrel scam brains Janet Lim Napoles, in exchange for choosing her non-government organizations to implement ghost projects funded by his PDAF.
The former senator is currently detained at the Custodial Center of the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
