Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV took another jab at ousted Speaker Alan Cayetano in the wake of the leadership mess at the Lower House.
In a post on Twitter, Trillanes claimed Cayetano was merely making an excuse when he thought President Duterte wanted him to finish the budget deliberations before stepping down from his post.
Cayetano has been removed from the top post after the majority of lawmakers elected his rival Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco as Speaker Monday. He announced his resignation shortly after the election of Velasco was ratified at the House Tuesday.
The Taguig lawmaker also offered his apology to the President for supposedly having misunderstood his term-sharing deal with Velasco.
Trillanes however is doubtful about Cayetano’s sincerity.
“Palusot,” he tweeted, sharing an Inquirer article titled “Cayetano apologizes to Duterte: Sorry if I misunderstood you.”
Cayetano has been criticized by some solons for allegedly trying to cling to power when he abruptly suspended the session of Congress to skip the October 14 turnover to Velasco.
The President, apparently displeased with Cayetano’s move, threatened to intervene if the congressmen fail to fix their mess and pass the proposed 2021 budget proposal. He has called for a special session of Congress to resume the budget deliberations.
