Trillanes tells Duterte to man up, face ICC probe: ‘No way out!’

President Duterte can’t use intimidation to wiggle his way out of a complaint before International Criminal Court (ICC), according to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV after his decision to withdraw from the international tribunal.

Trillanes tweeted that Duterte’s decision has no legal effect on the cases already filed before the ICC since the Rome Statute states the effectivity of the withdrawal is only a year after the notification.

He said Duterte’s alleged offenses are still covered by the ICC.

“This is but a political move by Duterte because he knows that there’s no way out for him in the ICC. Hindi nya ito kayang takutin gaya ng ginagawa nya sa mga korte natin,” he said.

“Mr. Duterte, magpakalalaki ka at harapin mo ang mga akusasyon laban sa yo,” he added.
