Trillanes to Kapa: File impeachment case vs Duterte for violating religious freedom

The controversial Kapa religious group has found an ally in Senator Antonio Trillanes IV following the government’s order to shut down its operations.

Trillanes said Kapa leaders should file an impeachment complaint against President Duterte for violating religious freedom.

“Para sa mga lider at myembro ng Kapa, mag file ng kasong impeachment laban kay Duterte for culpable violation of the Constitution (i.e. Art. II, Sec. 6) dahil sa pagbaliwala nito sa kanilang religious freedom,” he wrote on Facebook.

He said the government has no right to prohibit Kapa members from practicing religious freedom. He said documents show members were making “donations” to the group.

He said if there were no complainants against the Kapa leaders, the government also cannot file syndicated estafa against them.

Instead, he recommended to the government to let Kapa temporarily operate for a month pending the investigation. He said this would allow the chance to give the remaining funds to their members.

“Gayundin, sa lalong madaling panahon, gumawa ang gobyerno ng inventory ng mga nakuha nilang pera or property mula sa Kapa at gumawa ng distribution plan para sa pag distribute nito sa mga myembro ng Kapa,” he said.
