Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV is urging Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to come clean on his ill-gotten wealth stashed in secret bank deposits he didn’t declare in his statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN).
In a press conference, Trillanes said that even if Duterte managed to survive this massive corruption scandal and win as president, he vowed to lead an impeachment case against Duterte for lying on his SALN, the same shortcoming which caused the end of former Chief Justice Renato Corona.
“Mayor Duterte, tigilan mo na drama mo. Pirmahan mo na ang waiver,” said Trillanes.
Trillanes has prepared a waiver which would allow probers to look into Duterte’s bank records, specifically several bank accounts at the BPI Julia Vargas, Pasig City branch which he claimed contained at least P211 million.
He challenged Duterte to file a libel case in court to make it legal for the Anti Money Laundering Council to release in public his bank records.
Trillanes said the public should know how much funds were in the BPI J. Vargas accounts as he claimed that the P211 million was just the tip of the iceberg.
Duterte has confirmed the existence of the accounts just 24 hours after denying Trillanes’ claims as baseless. Duterte insisted that these accounts contained less than P50,000.
“This is your chance to get rid of Senator Trillanes forever,” said Trillanes who promised to quit as senator if Duterte proved that this ill-gotten wealth charges were a fluke.
”Kung siya parin ang magiging presidente gagawin kong basis ng impeachment complaint ito,” said Trillanes.
Trilanes said Duterte should stop the propaganda and face the isue squarely. “Biglang Tanggal ang yabang niya, ngayon puro alipores na ang humaharap para sa kanya,” said Trillanes.
He said his track record of going after powerful politician has so far remained unblemished. He said he only revealed the documents now because he only got the data last week.
