The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo has expressed confidence that she will eventually become victorious over the electoral protest filed by former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. against her.
“In the end, we are confident that Vice President Robredo will be vindicated and her victory confirmed,” said her legal counsel, lawyer Ma. Bernadette Sardillo.
Robredo’s camp made the statement after the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) turned down her motion seeking to immediately resolve the election protest.
We are extremely disappointed, but we fully respect the Presidential Electoral Tribunal’s decision to deny our motion for immediate resolution in connection with the election protest of losing candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,” stated Sardillo
“We anchored our motion on the fact that Marcos’ camp hasn’t proven anything in its electoral protest against Vice President Leni Robredo. In fact, VP Leni has gained additional votes from the recount,” she added.
The lawyer explained they pushed for the immediate resolution of the case “so as to prevent Marcos’ camp from spreading misinformation and propaganda to deceive the public about the genuine results of the 2016 elections, which thèy have been doing from the beginning of this process.”
In its resolution, the PET said it has to follow a process and cannot yet resolve the Marcos election protest now that the recount of the three pilot provinces has been concluded.
It explained it has to follow Rule 65 of the 2010 PET Rules, which “entail judicial recount, revision, and appreciation of the votes cast in the protestant’s (Marcos) pilot provinces.”
