Tulong, ‘di photo op! Ramon Ang takes swipe at donors funding COVID-19 booths instead of testing kits
The Philippines would benefit from having more COVID-19 testing kits instead of booths, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) president Ramon Ang said Friday (July 3).
At the inauguration of SMC’s COVID-19 testing facility, Ang took a swipe at people whom he said are helping the government’s efforts at containing the pandemic for publicity.
“’Yung iba, mga kwentong kutsero lang, hindi naman totoong tumutulong. Yung swab booth, P1000 isa nun. Eh kung bibili ka ng 250,000 na swab kits, P250 million yun. Yung swab pakitang-tao lang yun. Kailangan natin consumables. Kailangan natin swab kits,” he said.
Ang said it is important to ramp up COVID-19 testing in the country to restore public confidence.
“We have to make sure that testing is available to everyone and available even to poor people, kahit saan. In short, pag naramdaman mo na tinamaan ka ng sakit, kahit saan makakapagpatest ka. Wala nang dahi-dahilan,” he said.
SMC’s testing laboratory along EDSA-Mandaluyong is capable of processing 4,000 RT-PCR tests daily. Ang said its capacity can be increased to 12,000 per day depending on the government’s needs.
