Tuso ang mga Puno! Duterte reveals Dody’s wife used FDA as ‘gold mine’
Former Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Director General Nela Charade Puno used the agency as a “gold mine” by engaging in corruption, President Rodrigo Duterte has revealed.
In a speech during Senator-elect Bong Go’s victory party in Davao City (May 24), Duterte said he appointed Puno as a favor to her husband, Road Board executive director Rodolfo “Dody” Puno, who helped him during his presidential campaign.
“Marunong ‘yang mga Puno. Wala ako… Sabi ko noong pagkatapos na, hindi ko alam na gold mine pala ‘yan sa mga corrupt,” he said.
Duterte said his suspicion about Puno’s corrupt activities were confirmed when even the president Philippine Chamber of Commerce thanked him for firing her.
“Biro mo pati ‘yung president ng Philippine Chamber of Commerce nagpasalamat. Kaya ako wala na ako. Noong nalaman ko, sabi ko diretso na. Hindi ako nagbibigay ng kuwan,” he said.
Citing Duterte’s “continuing mandate to eradicate graft and corruption,” Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea wrote Puno a letter on May 15 telling her that her services were terminated.
Puno responded defensively to allegations of corruption, saying her firing by Duterte was a “clear attack of my character.”
