President Rodrigo Duterte continues to hold out hope that outgoing Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque will shelve his senatorial bid, as he made it clear Friday (October 12) that Chief Presidential Legal Counsel will become his mouthpiece for only a short period of time.
“He’s all good for sartorial elegance. No, temporarily he should fit the job,” Duterte said of Panelo in a press conference in Davao City following his trip from Indonesia.
The President added that Panelo could not serve permanently as his spokesperson because he is also the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel.
Panelo earlier confirmed he will be the Presidential Spokesperson starting October 15.
Roque has yet to announce his senatorial bid, though he recently confirmed shooting a campaign ad.
Duterte said he will talk to Roque soon to find out what his political plans are.
“I’ll just talk to him. Better. Ano ba talaga tatakbo, hindi, tatakbo, hindi, tatakbo, hindi? Abutin pa — abutin na naman ‘yan 2021, tatakbo, tatakbo uli… Much longer space to make the choice with finality,” he said.
