The ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP) party is now open to the idea of term-sharing to finally settle the speakership row for as long as Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco comes first.
PDP Laban President Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III made the statement following reports that some members of the Duterte‘s inner circle appeared to have convinced the President to reconsider his previous position not to endorse any candidate for Speaker and allow the Lower House to choose its own leader.
“To help settle the issue of House Speaker which has been dragging for a considerable period of time, the PDP Laban which is the majority party is open to the idea of term-sharing,” said Pimentel.
Pimentel stressed that Velasco has the right come first in the term-sharing deal since he “has already has an overwhelming number of members of Congress supporting him.”
Velasco’s camp earlier claimed around 220 lawmakers have signed the manifesto in support of the Marinduque solon’s speakership bid.
